Willie Nelson, Coldplay, An Animal Factory, and Chipotle Mexican Grill

This week’s creative/inspiration post should appeal to the naturalist in you. Not Captain America? That’s cool too. You’ll still appreciate the use of design and music to evoke an emotional response.

According to the video’s creator,

This 2-minute stop-motion animated film shows the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory, before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future.

It even has Willie Nelson performing a cover of Coldplay’s “The Scientist”, which I love!

UPDATE: Sorry, but it appears the owner made the video private. Sadly, we can no longer see it. Shame.

Chipotle Mexican Grill commissioned the video. I’m not sure I’ve visited their restaurant, and I sluggishly eat McDonald’s like many of you, but I do support the message of the video. I mean, have you seen Food Inc or Super Size Me? Whoa… scary.

I’m certainly starting to rethink what I put in my body.

Light, Shadow, and an Incredible Optical Illusion

As a kid I loved optical illusions. They were almost as entertaining as magic tricks. Oh, who am I kidding, I still love them. The human mind is so powerful and creative, yet it can easily be deceived. That fascinates me.

Squares A & B are the same shade!

What about you? Do you like optical illusions? Do you remember the one with the gray checkerboard, and a cylinder which cast a “shadow”? Chances are you’ve seen it. Here’s an example to the right. Believe it or not, squares A and B are the same shade of grey. Click the thumbnail to zoom in.

Well, check this out! The illusion has been recreated on video. It’s short, only a minute or so long. You’ll be amazed!

Do you know how the illusion works? If not, here’s your hint. The shadow on the checkerboard isn’t a shadow at all. Even more confused? No worries. The guys who created the video tell you all about it. You’ll have to click “show more” in the YouTube description field.

How cool!

Facebook Totally Redeems Themselves! – No Longer Limited to Low Quality Photo Uploads

Dumb and Dumber - "Dumb Happens" Poster

The first time I saw the movie Dumb & Dumber I laughed so hard my sides hurt the next day. Do you remember the “bathroom” scene? Whoa! That was funny. Lloyd (Jim Carey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) are the perfect pair of knit-wits!

Relax, this post isn’t really about Dumb & Dumber. This is a photography site, remember? I LOVE one-liners and there is a perfect one in this movie that relates to a recent complaint I’ve had with Facebook.

After Lloyd trades the Mutt Cuts van in for a moped, Harry says to him,

Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!

If you haven’t seen the movie, you won’t appreciate the “dumb” humor here, but the line still applies to a recent update by Facebook. Keep reading and I’ll show you what I mean.

Colton & the Camera – 3 Month Old Baby Photos – Douglasville

Here’s a little guy who at only 3 months is already attempting to conquer the world. He’s a strong-willed fella who’s learned a few key tricks since making his debut back in June (2011).

3 Lessons in 3 Months – How Colton Sees It

  1. One smile can get me anything I want.
  2. My mama? Yeah, I got her wrapped! Watch what happens when I cry.
  3. The ladies love me. What can I say? Look at this face!

Colton is one cool cat. And what a great name! As I said, he’s strong-willed. So, capturing some of these precious moments meant being patient, even stopping for a bit while Colton regained his composure. But hey, it was great to see Heather (new mom) in action. She’s already a pro.

We made some great photographs. I’ll highlight a few in this post and add the occasional commentary.

The Luck Factor in this Wedding Photo Capture

Phewww! It feels good to have the new site up and running! Sure, there are still a few things to tidy up here and there, but I suppose there always will be. Speaking of, did you take the new site tour?

Now that most of that is taken care of, I can get back to my real passion – creating images!

I currently have a few batches in the cooker that are just waiting to be served up. So, here we go… back to work.

As I was skimming through my images from Rachel‘s wedding in Norcross, Georgia, I came across the photo below. It’s certainly worth highlighting.

I’d like to claim that all of my photographs are strokes of genius. However, the reality is that sometimes I get lucky. Such is the case in this portrait.

Let’s talk specifics about this image: Why I like it and how a bit of luck was involved.

Putting Paint & Pattern on the Place – Preview the New Site Design.

Mosley Pro Photo, the company, has existed for over 10 years. This site, however, is brand new. I previously gave you a fair warning that this place would be under construction in it’s early months. We’ve rolled out a soft launch with the blog and things are as expected… just getting started.

Here are some basic stats about the blog in our first month.

Stats as of Aug 12, 2011. A little over a month old.

I love seeing those comments! I talk too much already. So, please chime in at any time.

As of this posting, 231 images have been shared. Not a bad start for the first month. And that doesn’t include the thousands in my portfolio.

Are You Ready for Phase 2?

It’s time to put some paint and pattern on these walls! Black is great for a “lights out” feel on large photos but it certainly doesn’t feel inviting, and my friend, I want you to know you are welcome here!

Phase 2? Well, it’s almost complete and I can’t wait to show it to you! Here’s a preview of the header area:

I think it’s gorgeous, but what do you think?

I’ll point out a couple of things:

  • The Mosley Pro Photo Logo version 2.0. I like this one, but I know it will continue to evolve over the coming years.
  • Time to warm up those black walls a bit. I’m after some warmer tones.

Do you like the background color and pattern?

There’s a large photo slideshow in the center of the page. I’ll save that for the full unveiling (coming super soon!) The design elements are all brought together and prepared tastefully! Yummy!

I do want to show you one more area. Mmmm…

Enjoy this early unveiling! Hope you like the photos. Please comment.

Bleeding Eyes and My Desktops

At 4AM my 8 month old boy woke me and I couldn’t fall back asleep. So, I decided to get an early start on the day, which primarily consists of editing images from a recent bridal session (images coming soon!).

It’s now 1:10PM. I’ve been staring at my computer screen for over 7 hours and my eyes feel like they are about to bleed. At least I have a killer view (pun).

You’ll recognize this king of the jungle if you’ve spent any time plundering through Apple’s new Lion OS (which I’m loving, by the way). These are screen shots of my computer’s desktops.

I would SO love to travel to Africa and photograph beasts like these!

In the mean time, I’m left to daydream as I edit bridal pictures. Oh, well. At least the bride is easy on the eyes.

Cutest Baby Boy the World (at Least Douglasville) Has Ever Seen!

DISCLAIMERS:

  1. The title is a little biased… but only a little. Luke is my son and he’s one cute model!
  2. Luke is not quite 9 months old in these photos. Very close though.

Alright, with that out of the way, here he is folks! The Cutest Baby Boy the World Has Ever Seen!

I’m not biased at all. Need further proof? Oh, I’ve got proof!

Move, Eat, Learn – A Little Something for the Creative in You

3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage… all to turn 3 ambitious linear concepts based on movement, learning and food ….into 3 beautiful and hopefully compelling short films…..

I stumbled across this Move, Eat, Learn video series and loved it! So, I thought I’d share it with the good folks of this community. Perhaps it can spark some creativity in you this week. Me? I’m just jealous of all the cool places these guys visited!

Each of the videos are short, only a minute long. If you still only have time for one, start with “Move”. I like it best.

MOVE by Rick Mereki and crew.

I love the concept and their use of space. It reminds me of Matt Harding‘s “Dancing” (2006) video. Did you see that one as well? I’m sure you did. It was popular on YouTube for a bit.

There are 2 other videos: Eat and Learn. I think you’ll like them as well!

[You didn't enter a valid video URL. Please try again.]When I have something that needs to be sold online, I choose Craigslist over Ebay. Why? Because I prefer to deal locally.

In this post I’ll show you how to earn the trust of your buyer’s by “embedding” YouTube videos into your ad.

Craigslist doesn’t allow this by default, but we can trick it a little bit.

“Embed” a YouTube Video and Ensure Buyer Confidence.

Buyers feel more confident when they can preview before purchasing. In addition to adding quality photos, I also “embed” a YouTube video of the item(s).

Buyer’s are willing to pay more when they feel confident in the quality of the purchase.

Trust me, it’s an extra step, but well worth your time.
